ShoreTel HQ installation for Windows 2012

SCENARIO
ShoreWare servers require IIS, COM+, SMTP and FTP. Other required Tasks include changing the SMTP and FTP startup type to automatic.
The following sections describe the selections required at pivotal steps in the installation process. These steps must be completed as a prerequisite to installing or upgrading the ShoreWare components discussed in this section.

  • NOTE: Windows Server 2012 must be activated through Microsoft before installing ShoreWare Server and Remote Server. Further details are covered in the ShoreTel Planning and Installation Guide.
Add Roles in Server Manager
- Click the Server Manager icon on the task bar or select Start >  Administrative Tools > Server Manager
In Server Manager select Manage, then select "Add Roles or Features". Alternatively, you can click the Add Roles icon on the center pane.

Installation Windows Role Services
- Click Next 
- Select Role-Based or feature-based installation
- Select the local server.

NOTE: You may have to expand some fields to access certain required roles.

Required Application Server Roles
In the Roles pane, click Application Server and Web Server (IIS) 

Below are the required Application Server roles. (Select All of Them).

Required Web Server Role Services
Below are the required Web Server (IIS) roles.

  • Select all Application Development Features
  • ​Select all Common HTTP Features
  • Select all FTP Server Server options
  • Select the following Health and Diagnostics Features:
    • HTTP Logging
    • Logging Tools
    • Request Monitor
    • Tracing
  • Select all IIS Hostable Web Code options
  • Select all Management Tools options
  • Select all Security options
  • Select all Performance options

Once you are completed with the Roles section above select Next and proceed to the Feature section. Select the following options:

  • Select .NET Framework 3.5 Features
  • Select SMTP Server
  • Select Quality Windows Audio Video Experience

Once completed install the required components. You may also select the check box to automatically reboot the device if required.

Configuring Microsoft FTP Service for Automatic Startup

Navigate to Start > Administrative Tools > Services

  • Locate the Microsoft FTP Service
  • Ensure that it is set to Automatic.
  • If not right click and select Properties.
  • Configure the Service for Automatic Start.

Configuring Simple Mail Transfer Protocl Service for Automatic Startup

Navigate to Start > Administrative Tools > Services

  • Locate the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol Service
  • Ensure that it is set to Automatic.
  • If not right click and select Properties.
  • Configure the Service for Automatic Start.

Configuring Data Execution Prevention

  • Right Click on Computer and Select Properties.
  • Advanced System Settings.
  • Advanced Tab
  • Performance -> Settings
  • Data Execution Prevention Tab
  • Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only.

Configuring the Windows Firewall
  • Navigate to the Control Panel.
  • Select Windows Firewall.
  • Select Turn Windows Firewall on or off
  • Ensure the Firewall is configured to be off.

Note: When possible you can also manually stop or disable the Windows Firewall service within Start ->  Administrative Tools -> Services. However, this could impact remote access via the Remote Desktop Connection application built within Windows.
