Verify and Rebuild QuickBooks Company File
Verifying and repairing a corrupted QuickBooks company file can be done
for free using the built-in Rebuild Data tool in QuickBooks Desktop.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Run
QuickBooks on the server and log in as the Admin user.
2. Switch
to Single-User Mode: Go to the File menu and select Switch to
Single-User Mode.
3. Verify
Data: Go to File > Utilities > Verify Data.

If it says "QuickBooks detected
no problems," no further action is needed.

If it displays an error, proceed to
step 4.
4. Rebuild
Data: Go to File > Utilities > Rebuild Data.
5. Create
a Backup: QuickBooks will prompt you to create a backup before the rebuild
starts. Click OK, choose a save location (do not overwrite existing backups),
enter a unique file name, and click Save.
6. Run
the Rebuild: Wait for the tool to finish repairing your file. The program may
appear frozen (not responding), but as long as your mouse moves, the process is
working.
7. Complete
the Rebuild: Click OK once the "Rebuild has completed" message
appears, then check the report.
8. Verify Again: Go to File > Utilities >
Verify Data one or more times to ensure the repair was successful.
9. When
done, switch back to
Multi-user mode
· Suggest
running this process on the server.
· Suggest
running the rebuild process several times until no errors are found in the
report.

You should verify your QuickBooks Desktop file whenever you encounter
performance issues, unusual errors, or discrepancies in reports
